For quite a number of years, Steve Swan and his wife Liz have competed in hill climbs and historic races using their two Renault 8 Gordinis. Both cars are always immaculately presented, and while Liz's is quick, and regularly wins her the ladies prize in class, Steve's car might be described as mildly insane. This is not the place to list all the detail modifications, and those interested may care to visit Steve's website www.8gordiniworkshop.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk for more information. Not content with the awesome performance already on hand, Steve was constantly on the look out for something, which would deliver more. That something turned out to be an even older Renault Dauphine. Mainly due to the very thin gauge metal used on the body shell, the Dauphine weighs some 330 lbs less than the R8, which translates into a significant performance advantage. In terms of permitted modification, a historical prototype exists, raced on the continent many years ago.
