Some time ago I bought a Sieg X1 micro mill. It's quite a decent little machine for its low price and most things are possible given patience and ingenuity. It can be improved in quite a number of ways but eventually you get to the situation where an improvement requires a milling operation on a key component of the mill. If you've disassembled your mill to access the key component how are you going to perform the milling operation on it? You need another milling machine. If you have a nearby club or a friend with a suitable machine there is no problem but otherwise you need to obtain another mill. Although the X1 is a pretty capable machine, high precision is difficult to obtain when machining hard materials because the mill flexes during operations. Its work envelope also restricts one to work on relatively small components. With all of these thoughts in mind I decided to buy a second, larger milling machine, whilst retaining the X1.
