Lathe Tool Shanks For Carbide Tips

With the Orac CNC lathe finally up and running with Mach 3 software, my attention turned to tooling for the machine. I had previously made a quick change toolpost matching one produced some time earlier for the Myford S7. This meant that one set of QC tool holders would work with either machine. Over time, I have come to appreciate the benefits that accrue from using indexable carbide tips - easily changed or rotated and no significant variation in tip location. The major stumbling block has been the cost of these tool holder shanks, typically in excess of ￡40-00 from industrial suppliers, although similar items have more recently become available from suppliers at more reasonable prices.
