I decided to make a simple one job only dividing device and use a flycutter in the milling machine to cut the gear. The commercial thread dials use a 32 tooth wormwheel and fortunately these lathes include a 32 tooth change wheel so that was one problem overcome. Figure 1 shows the general arrangement and photorn2 the component parts of the dividing device including the simple fly cutter. This assembly was mounted on an angle plate as shown in photo 3 so that the flycutterrncan be traversed across it.
