While searching for a more efficient way to mount lathe tools on these machines, I decided that a quick change tool post was the way to go as it allowed for several tools to remain mounted in their own respective holders and it provided vertical adjustability on the tool post without the need for packing under the tools (photo 1). I soon found that commercially available quick change tool posts were not available in a small enough size to fit the DB200 lathe. At that point I decided to design and build my own. I had four objectives in mind for this new design. It had to be rigid, repeatable, use standard components where possible and had to be able to be built using the machine tools I had in my own shop. I don't remember where, but years ago I saw a variation of the usual quick change design, in that the dovetails were reversed, having the female dovetail portion in the main block of the tool post.
