EASILY MADE MICROMETER HOLDER

The components of the project (photo 2) are the base of 100mm diameter aluminium, in the centre is an 8mm threaded hole. The height is fixed by a 100mm round steel bar screwed into the 8mm tapped hole. The actual micrometer holder (photo 3) is made of steel and two screws have to be made, one to hold the micrometer holder to the steel bar and another that clamps the micrometer. The screw that clamps the micrometer has two parts; in the front is a nylon plug that is press-fitted inside the clamping screw to protect the micrometer frame from damage (photo 4). To fix the nylon inside the screw, insert the nylon pad into the end of the screw and screw it in so the nylon is press-fitted. You can hold the micrometer horizontal (photo 5) or vertical (photo 6) or any angle in between. Materials for this project are not important, I used aluminium and steel but you can use what is in your scrapbox.
