FACING THIN DISCS BY MEANS OF A WAX PLATE

As it happened a solid aluminium plate was already available for the lathe and this was used as it was, i.e. no further preparation was required. However, for the purposes of the photographs and future use, the plate has been skimmed and concentric circles added. As it was aluminium, soldering was out of the question; epoxy resin was a possibility except for the time required for it to set; double sided tape has been tried in other situations with mixed results and Turner's cement was not available. Cyanoacrylate glue was tried but this set too quickly to allow easy centering of the disc; it also had insufficient grip, possibly caused by moving the work whilst it was setting.
