CONSTRUCTION OF A TOP SLIDE

Prior to the regrind I had suffered a (catastrophic dig-in when parting off; the workpiece was torn out of the chuck, the tool destroyed, the tool post bent and the lathe stalled. The 6in. chuck was damaged beyond repair, one of the gears in the headstock lost a tooth and the top slide was distorted. A total strip down of the headstock was required to replace the damaged gear.
