I recently had a telephone conversation with the Managing Director of the UK outlet for KX1 CNC Milling machines. During the conversation it became obvious that the popularity and ownership of the machines is on the increase. The only apparent down side is that some new owners have experienced a degree of disappointment and frustration trying to get to grips with the machine as a knowledge of CNC processes, along with conventional milling skills, is desirable before actually trying to cut metal. This started me thinking about the times when CNC machining was just starting to make an impact in smaller engineering workshops and of a time when I didn't have the first idea of how the whole thing worked.
