It was while perusing the pages of Arc Euro Trade's catalogue, (I have no link to this company other than being a satisfied customer) (ref. 1) that I noticed they supply square and hexagonal collet blocks. Just the very thing I'm looking for: simply mount the work in a collet which in turn is mounted in the square collet block. Clamp the block in the vice and machine the first flat. Turn the block over 90deg. in the vice and machine the second flat, repeat until a square has been machined. Simple! No need to remove the vice and no need to set up the rotary table. Easy peasy. Ahhhh... if only everything in life were that easy; but there's always a snag isn't there? The snag here is that the collet blocks take a 5C collet which is something I don't have.
