Many of the castings for the Jacobs Gear Hobber as supplied by College Engineering (rot 1) wouldn't fit between the jaws of my Vertex K4 vise or any other vice I have in the workshop. The K4 has a maximum jaw opening capacity of 85mm and a number of the vertical and horizontal slide components in the Jacobs design are considerably wider than that.
