Many latecomers to the world of Model engineering seem to get into it via the many small machines now available but there is another way. Being made redundant several years ago from a factory that was closing, I had prevailed on my boss to be able to take with me a few old machines that I had found rotting in a warehouse. Among them was a Bridgeport milling machine. Rusty and obviously badly treated it was difficult to see whether it was even worth bothering with, but with nothing to lose I decided to see if it would be in my powers to get it running. I got a local transport company to transport it home and spent some of my redundancy cash building my workshop around it (Photo 1).
