They do unfortunately suffer from the same thing so many electronic instruments do in that they have an auto shut off. I suspect this is more to do with being able to do this in the on-board chip than just not fitting an on/off switch; I expect it is probably much cheaper to do as well. The down side of this is that the circuit is still live even though the instrument is asleep.
