My new workshop is 40m up a steep curving driveway from the old, damp, double garage which I had shared with woodlice for several years. Although I appreciated their company on cold winter evenings, the rust on my tools was less welcome and the move to the new building was planned to give light, warmth and less humidity to my endeavours, while leaving the 'Parson's Pigs' with more room to play. Quite late in the day I realised that no thought had been given as to how several tons of machinery were going to be moved up the drive, through the door of the new building, and then juggled into position. Yes, all this gear could have been placed on the concrete slab foundation and the walls built around it, but any future removal would have been impossible! Despite strenuous appeals, the Russians would not provide a heavy-lift helicopter but fortunately a friend with a 1 ton excavator came to my rescue.
