DPs

Following an email from a reader I thought I would mention that DP is Diametral pitch as related to gear wheels: I am an OAP taking interest in home engineering some 63 years after leaving tech college' I am not a computer buff either! I have tried to follow the 'Everyday engineering for absolute beginners' in your MEW mag. The last article by Peter King started off with the first sentence that made no sense to me at all. What on earth is/are DPs???? This is not the first time that new words and abbreviations have crept in, but I cannot find this one in my engineering books to enlighten me!!
