This was the epitaph laid on the butters at Barnstaple Town Station when the Lynton and Barnstaple Railway closed. Did the writer have some sort of foreknowledge or just a hope that the railway would run again. I doubt we will ever know but the words are finally coming true. The Lynton and Barnstaple Railway held their Gala open weekend on the 11th and 12th of May. I did not go as I was still moving house but I did manage to go the following Saturday, the 18th. The reason I wanted to go was to see the new build Lynton and Barnstaple locomotive Lyd. This locomotive was due to go back to Wales on Tuesday the 21st of May and I was not sure when or if it would be back. Saturday was a lovely sunny day unlike the gala weekend which was a washout. As I approached the station I saw Lyd about 1/4 mile away and it was worth the long drive down to Devon. We arrived at the station and about 5 minutes later Lyd arrived pulling two of the original Lynton and Barnstaple coaches.
