Recently, as part of a repair job, I had to make the two pillars shown in the photograph. Unfortunately, what I thought was going to be an easy job, turned out to be rather more complicated than I imagined, with a number of unforeseen twists. This article, then, is a description of what I ran into, and how I got over them, and is aimed fairly and squarely at relative newcomers who perhaps might not have considered these problems. Old hands of course, will have made 10 of these in the time I've taken to write this paragraph, but it took me quite a few days.
