There is no intention to provide a blow-by-blow account of these items, merely to use them to demonstrate the thinking and procedures involved in such a project. In this particular article, we shall look at the micrometer dial ring, that is the adjustable device used on the leadscrew to determine tool travel along with the ability to set zero at any point, together with its locking device. Photograph 1 shows the dial ring and it's locking device along with the handwheel (on the left) around which the dial ring rotates.
