Proposed new audit body 'not another Audit Commission'

Sir Tony Redmond insisted his recommendation for an Office of Local Audit and Regulation would be a small body with an annual budget of £5m a year - not the £90m budget of the commission. 'People will say I have brought the Audit Commission back,' he said. 'I haven't.' The new body would oversee and regulate audit, as well as procuring services for the sector.
