It feels like an age since we packed our cases and travelled up north for the Local Government Association conference. What struck me was the solidarity of authorities across the tiers, recognising the great ongoing work and the potential for future collaborative strategy and delivery. We were lucky enough to have communities secretary Greg Clark attend our annual assembly event during the three-day conference and were reassured by his messages. He told us that the Government wants to meet in council offices and civic centres to understand the powers needed for effective devolution and that clusters of districts can bring forward devolution proposals and be the people to take the strategic view for our areas.
