Labour's promise to fund free elderly social care as a 'building block' towards a national care sendce, has been praised by council leaders at the party's annual conference. Shadow chancellor John McDonnell told delegates in Brighton that a Labour government would inject billions into adult social care, paid from general taxation, in order to provide 'personal care free at the point of use' across England.
