It is 'full steam ahead' on devolution, the new communities and local government secretary, Greg Clark, has told The MJ. Mr Clark, whose appointment as secretary of state was widely regarded as a signal of the Government's intention to press ahead with devolution, has confirmed the process is 'one of the main components of the Government's ambition in the next few years'. In addition to his own commitment to devolution, and that of the chancellor George Osborne, Mr Clark said: "The prime minister regards this as a personal mission.' The Government's ambition is to ensure 'all parts of the country are participating economically'. 'I want our cities to be on the global stage,' he said, and while he claimed the chancellor had been clear mayors would not be imposed, devolution at 'the level of ambition we want to see' would need the strong governance model it offered.
