Brandon Lewis has welcomed plans for three housing associations to merge and launch their own training academy as 'exactly' what similar organisations should be doing. The Hyde Group, L&Q and East Thames announced plans last week to merge into a single association and build 100,000 new homes across London and the South East. According to the associations, the single organisation would be worth around £30bn and be responsible for managing 135,000 homes. The merger will also lead to the creation of a new training academy, which will provide apprenticeship schemes for staff and training for residents. Housing minister Brandon Lewis said joining forces would make a 'real difference' to the associations and 'help thousands of people across London and the South East'.
