Councils are unlikely to receive financial help to cope with millions of people applying for settled status after the UK leaves the EU, The MJ understands. Local authorities have warned the Government that Whitehall will have to 'rely heavily' on them to facilitate the process. But their pleas have failed to illicit any firm funding commitment from Government to cover any new burdens.
