The UK has the second lowest spending on health and health-related social care as a percentage of GDP among the G7 industrialised countries according to latest international comparisons from the Office for National Statistics.Total healthcare spending in the UK by Government and private bodies trailed just below NHS inflation by rising 3.6% in 2016, according to latest figures from the Office for National Statistics.Total current healthcare expenditure in 2016 was £191.7bn, an increase of 3.6% on spending in 2015 against annual healthcare inflation of around 4%. Government expenditure on healthcare, which includes spending by the NHS, local authorities and other public providers, was £152.2bn, accounting for 79.4% of total current healthcare expenditure.Government spending accounted for 62% of all spending on long-term health-related care, with the rest funded 'out of pocket' by users
