A Welsh council has agreed with staff to cut their pay, in a bid to reduce costs and meet its budget deficit. Neath Port Talbot Council has brokered a deal with 7,000 staff which will see them taking up to a 2% pay cut, followed by a three-year pay freeze. Those earning less than £13,000 will not be affected. Unison regional organiser, Eddie Gabrielsen, said staff voted in favour of the deal by two to one. He said: 'I can't say they are ecstatic about it, but they see it as a way of ensuring their employment for the future.'
