Rates changes would prove 'problematic' for councils

Proposed changes to business rates revaluations would prove 'incredibly problematic' for councils, it has been claimed. The Local Government Association (LGA) has asked for a review of proposals to move the deadline for draft rateable values from 30 September to 31 December as part of the Non-Domestic Rating (Lists) Bill. Giving evidence to MPs, chair of the LGA resources board, Cllr Richard Watts said it would have 'profound implications for the way in which local authorities set budgets for one year out of three'.
