Is the next Alec Issigonis currently lurking in Britain's art schools? We visited the annual Coventry University Design Degree Show to spot the up and coming car design talent. It's a fact that British art schools have produced more of the world's top designers than any others and Coventry School of Art & Design is foremost amongst them in the automotive design field. From the designer of the New Mini's interior (Tony Hunter) to the stylist behind the latest BMW 1 Series exterior (Kevin Rice), an increasing flow of talented students has passed through the doors of the school and out into the world's car styling studios over the last 33 years. The latest crop of 'stars to be' includes a healthy number interested in the design of small cars. Could there be a 'spiritual' Mini successor there? Let us make a few introductions.
