There was a really good cross-section of 998 and big-bore Minis this time. We were impressed at the general standard of maintenance achieved by NWMC members, and the bhp figures, quoted at the crank this month, reveal that most of these A-series/A+/ SPi/MPi engines were in good condition. No really embarrassing bhp figures here. Once upon a time you could assume that, at the average dyno test, most of the 998s would be running very lean, the turbos would be pinking away and many Minis would have wild ignition advance, open or leaky vacuum advance pipes and overheating issues. These days, as folk are taking the plunge and using dyno testers more frequently, more engines seem to be in pretty good trim.
