In 1994 the rally world was startled by a blast from the past. Thirty years after he had won the 1964 Monte Carlo Rally, Paddy Hopkirk, by now in his sixties, reappeared at Monte Carlo in a specially prepared Rover Mini Cooper, registered L33 EJB. The brains behind this reprise of the Mini Cooper's rallying career was British Motor Heritage's PR Consultant John Brigden. John, known as 'Mr Bridger', saw an opportunity to gain some valuable PR for the newly resurrected Mini Cooper and its tuning spares. With Ron Crellin in the co-driver's seat, L33 EJB was classified as a finisher on the 1994 Rallye Monte Carlo in 52nd place after some dramas involving fan belts.
