It looks like full-on A-series conversions are coming back into fashion. Although there's always going to be a good deal of curiosity about fitting newer, glamorous engines from contemporary cars and bikes, the A-series and its later derivatives are really the identity of Mini. Sadly, high-torque A-series engine conversions can be quite short-lived. At launch, the Mini engine produced 34bhp and 44Lb/ft torque. This is what the 'in-unif gearbox was built for. No surprises that powertrain longevity was much reduced when the 76bhp, 79lb/ft 1275cc S engine was introduced in 1964.
