Back in freezing mid-December 2007, we got the call to attend an epic West of England clash which included the members of Gloucester MOC, West Country Minis, Severn MC, Abingdon MOC and NIMAS among others. Please excuse us if we missed out your club - things get a bit weird after a whole day of carbon monoxide and choice particulates. And no, the rogue Vauxhall in the line-up didn't walk it. Top power was Graham Biggs' 1430cc stroker Clubman, which wasn't even in tip top tune. Spam gave out two awards for the day to his preferred cars; Graham got one for top power and the other went to Barry Mannings for his 998. Top small-bore power went to Andy Payne for his 1014cc Mini, but special mention must be made for Craig Barrett's 94.2bhp - a well set-up engine indeed. Figures this month have been adjusted for losses to show power at the crank. Sadly, we're still a long way from seeing a dyno test in which all the Minis return perfect timing and fuelling results. But it does get better. Once upon a time nearly all the carb Minis were too lean but there seems to be a fair share now returning rich tests, which means that efforts are being made to address the lean problem.
