It's pretty obvious from Northampton Motorsport's premises that they are serious car-tuning people who probably deal with all the contemporary trends in mapping and such. But their dyno boss and director Troy Robinson wasn't intimidated by the prospect of diagnosing SU carbs, ignition points and even Mini automatic transmission. The Minis were carefully treated although we did not have CO or AFR measurements for this test. At the top of the list was Andrew Wise's monster supercharged Jonspeed conversion with the fashionable BMW Cooper S Eaton supercharger fitted downstream of a single SU carb. It'll probably beat 100bhp after a good dyno set-up. At the other end of the scale was John Rickard's 1963 Austin Super, all 27bhp of it. What a great Mini this is shaping up to be and it's only had two owners in the last 45 years. With a bit of tweaking it will probably get better than 30bhp eventually! Test figures are calculated to give bhp at the crank.
