It is with deep regret that we announce the death of Mr Stephen Smith on Sunday 22 February this year. Many in the UK Mini scene will have met Steve or seen his world-class Mini Coopers at shows or on the cover of MiniWorld. Steve joined the Mini Cooper Register in 1987 and was Chairman from 2000 until 2002. Subsequently, he became organiser of the Mini Cooper Register's high profile annual Mini Cooper Day at Beaulieu from 2005.rnHis Mk2 Cooper S, ODL 975H, appears in John Parnell's peerless book OriginalrnMini Cooper and Cooper S and he also commissioned L333 E|B, sister Mini to Paddy Hopkirk's 1994 car, which was built alongside L33 E|B.rnWe were awed by his early 1071cc Cooper S, DWV 596C, which was on the cover of our February 2000 issue. MiniWorld thought it was the best restored Mini in the world and it earned a very large number of top-flight trophies.
