Family runabout, shopping trolley, track racer, concours d'elegance show-off, and now supercharged weekend tourer - this Mk2 Morris Cooper S has been around long enough to have seen and done it all.rnI have owned one or two Minis over the years, but to me this was the car that really caught my enthusiasm for the traditional sliding window 'hot' Cooper S. During the 1980s there were a relatively small number of Minis that stood out from the crowd, fighting it out for honours on the concours fields of Beaulieu Castle at the annual Mini Cooper Day. This was one of them. Its beautiful Snowberry White paintwork, contrasting black roof, spotlights and plethora of Works-type competition goodies made 59 GEW stunningly attractive. It gave me the incentive and the desire to own a car with all the right period tuning bits on it - magnesium Minilite wheels, Works dashboard, stopwatches, Halda, twin inch-and-a-halfrncarbs, tuned engine... In my eyes this was truly a great car.
