There is nothing quite like a set of period wheels to set off a classic restoration or a retro converted Mini. Since the 1960s it has been popular to fit wider wheels to Minis to improve both looks and handling; the trend really got under way with the introduction of the Dunlop alloy wheel range, the Dunlop Formula 70 165/70x10 'Graunchy Gripper' tyre and the range of alloys produced by Cosmic circa 1968 or '69. Wide steels were also popular with 4.5-inch reverse rim Cooper S wheels and 5-inch steels being the favourites.
