Original Mini Sprints were first built in 1965 by racing driver Geoff Thomas and Neville Trickett. The idea was to build a lower Mini with less wind resistance that would be even faster for racing. Originally the roofs were dropped by 3-inches. The main problem back in those days was apparently installing the smaller windscreen, and many cracked while being fitted. To buy a complete Mini Sprint Cooper would have cost you £1,057, with the conversion being offered for £275. Around 85 were made and they received rave reviews.
