Lowering Mini suspension has been popular since the early 1960s. Until the 1990s adjustable suspension was very expensive and most Minis were lowered by removing metal from the suspension trumpets. The front suspension compression tools were not as widely available in the 60s ad 70s. As a result, many less-discerning owners (in other words'boy racers') lowered the rear only, which did nothing for the appearance of the car, and certainly did not improve the Mini's handling.
