I have a cooling issue with my 1975 Mini, which I have owned since 1988, when I was 17. When travelling on the motorway at speeds (in terms of revs about 5,000rpm), after about 10 minutes the temperature rises from normal very quickly and I have to slow down. The temperature will sit at normal all day long in traffic, even when idling, or at speeds below 70mph. The engine is a 1275 MG Metro unit with stage 3 head, 1.5:1 rockers, four-core radiator and 11-blade fan. I have replaced the thermostat with a new one. It has been rolling road tuned (75bhp at the flywheel) with no issues, which I guess is because it did not spend too long in the range where the temperature tends to rise. I have tried different temp ranges of sparkplugs, too. I do not have an oil cooler fitted. Do you think this would help?
