Unrestored 1959 Mini sells for £40K

The eighth Austin Mini to come off the production line at Longbridge sold for £40,250 (including buyer's premium) at Bonhams on 30 April, well over the guide price of £12,000 to £15,000. Media hype regarding the story seems to have encouraged interest, with incorrect tales of it having just been found in a barn and being a pre-production Mini. The facts are that the Mini was owned from new by Gladys Hobro of Bognor Regis. It failed an MOT in 1985, due to rust. It was then bought by the owner of the garage, where it had been regularly maintained, for his son to repair.
