Members of Gloucester Mini Owners Club turned up at Spamspeed Motorsport, on the outskirts of Stroud, after a short convoy from nearby Gloucester. Two non road-legal cars also appeared on trailers. And, by the middle of the afternoon, we had a winner: step forward Mr Pete Upton! He might not know what sort of Mini his was originally but he knows what it takes to build a lightweight screamer for the drag strip, which kicks out a very impressive 128.3bhp. It was noisy enough to make your ears bleed, liquify your inner organs and vibrate items off the shelves. Other 'moments' during the day included Will Lane's bonnet dropping at 100mph, Rob Leigh's Mini spitting out a large amount of oil from the dipstick tube and Mr Spam himself entering Steve Edward's multi-coloured Class 1 Autograss car 'Dukes of Hazzard' style, through a welded-up door, to a round of applause from the assembled spectators.
