A Mini's battery is located in the boot. Even the Estates and Commercials had the battery mounted at the rear. This is unusual for a car, even today, but it was done for two main reasons. Firstly the weight of the battery at the rear improved weight distribution and secondly there was little room for a battery under the bonnet. Early prototype Minis did however have the battery located under the bonnet.
