The pre-verto, older style, diaphragm clutch has been with us many years. When correctly assembled, it provides years of trouble free service. What's more, it is near bullet proof in terms of performance potential and reliability. When the correct parts are selected, used and the unit treated as a 'system', it is extremely reliable and does not give rise to further problems in other areas of the engine and transmission. However, because of its relative simplicity, key points are often overlooked during a Mini build. If you're investing in a performance Mini engine, or just want your Mini to run as smoothly as possible, it is worth optimising the components of your diaphragm clutch system.
