Crisis? What crisis?

I mentioned in my last Logbook about the onset of the cold weather and I read weather commenteries about 2013/14 being a 'one hundred year' winter with record-breaking snowfalls for the UK in November and December. I think that it has actually been unseasonably mild (so far), with only a handful of slight frosts in the sunny Midlands and no snow yet. Who believes the long range weather forecast anyway? This presents a dilemma for the choice of tyres to take with us on the Rallye Monte Carlo Historique. For the 2013 Monte, we left England in the grip of another memorable year of snow, ice and difficult journeys to work. Influenced by the heavy falls of snow in 2012, many of the Mini brigade had taken really aggressive snow and ice lyres, which proved to be the wrong choice (as we arrived in France the day the thaw set in. To check things out, and to do some route planning, my co-driver Willly Cave and I decided to go out to France to have a look.
