A GRAND PLAN

Like all of the very best ideas, this was one that was conceived after a few too many pints. We had both finished uni and had some spare time between May and August last summer before starting our jobs. The idea would be simple: get Harry, the Mini I had bought years before for £50, back on the road and go for a very, very long drive. Simple. Harry is a 1983 City E, with original engine, fitted with a stage 1 kit. He hadn't been on the road for probably 10 years so I spent a few months replacing all of the rubber parts, gaiters, ball joints, etc. I also replaced the clutch, brake cylinders and shoes and the ignition system to make sure that was in tip top condition for the trip. Fortunately the body was very solid so I didn't have to go down the route of welding and large scale repairs.
