I am about to work abroad for at least a year and need to lay my Mini up. Could you give me some advice on what I need to do to prepare my Mini for long-term storage? It will be stored in a garage attached to my house, which is reasonably dry and is equipped with light and power. Start by cleaning and fully drying your Mini before putting it into the garage. If possible stand the Mini on four axle stands to support the weight of the car, one should be placed in each corner, supported by the subframe. Make sure that the car is properly supported and that there is no danger of it falling on to anyone or anything. If this is not possible you could fit an old set of wheels and tyres. This is a much better option if there is any likelihood that the car might have to be moved at some point.
