At the age of 19, in 1978, John Cartlidge decided that his model train set would be more useful converted to cash. With £60, he landed a 1960 Mini. It was 848cc but, in his mind, it was a step closer to a Cooper S. "The car was in quite good condition, given it was 20 years old. I had to replace both doors, as well as the boot lid, and it was then painted Island Blue and white, my favourite Cooper S colour scheme. I sold the Mini on to a friend, who then sold me a 1000cc Mini with Cooper S head."
