Threats of heavy rain and strong gales were not going to put off the Riv Runners gathering for the annual Riviera Run over the bank holiday weekend of 1-4 May. Many arrived on the Friday and put up tents or settled into their caravans for the forthcoming three days of excellent Mini activities at Newquay View Resort in Newquay, Cornwall. New for this year was the Family Fun Day on the Saturday. Traders set up to welcome Mini owners in the Valley Field as they observed, and took part in, the autotest. Cornish Mini Club had arranged a Vauxhall Corsa for people to compete in if they didn't want to use their Minis. Unsurprisingly, the Corsa was driven rather exuberantly and the engine died. Saturday evening in The Venue saw the ever popular Riv Run fancy dress contest. The top prize was a holiday so Mini folk pulled out all the stops. Minis 'n' Oatcakes dressed up as Rodney, Del Boy and Uncle Albert, complete with Trotters Independent Trading Reliant Robin three wheeler - brilliant! The holiday winners were dressed as The Flintstones.
