Last month I mentioned that my 1990 Rover Mini, Sheldon, was unwell after our trip to Newquay for the Riviera Run. Thankfully the stuck number one inlet valve could be freed and we got home OK. There were no two ways about it, the head had to come off. As the job progressed, it was clear that Sheldon required more than just a new valve, which was purchased from Somerford Minis. The pushrods were worn, too. I also found that the water pump was very furred up but I had a spare second-hand one. With the head on the bench, the valve springs were removed from the problematic valve and, even though the valve travelled up and down, it wouldn't rotate. So, with very short notice, Stuart Wright kindly agreed to check over the head.
