I have been offered a 1969 G-registered Mini which is in good condition but has had a number of updates carried out over the years. I have been told that it was originally an 850 but it has been fitted with a 1275cc injection engine and an interior complete with airbag out of a 1997 Mini and the owner believes that it has been reshelled at some point in its life. It has been repainted in late model Mini Cooper colours. I am interested in buying the car but need to know if it is genuine. Also, is there a quick way to tell whether it has wet or dry suspension? A 1969 G-registered Mini would originally have been fitted with Hydrolastic (wet) suspension and the fastest way to establish this is to open the bonnet and look in the top corners by the brake and clutch master cylinders on the offside and the wiper motor on the nearside.
